With a fresh line up and tactical approach, Chris Barry and Daniel Kelly were overseeing their first match in charge of the Lloyd’s Vets. Their first opponents being the well-equipped and physically strong HMPS. Lloyd’s started well, pressing high out of possession and looking after the ball once possession was retained. Lloyd’s begun to make numerous chances with Sam Raven squandering a couple of efforts and Kieran Wilson hitting the post. At the other end, the back three of Kane Boenke, Alex Bessent and Alex Lettington had their hands full with an extremely physical and direct forward line. Lee Shaw and Saf Pivano provided excellent energy and width and were always an option. The Lloyd’s midfield of Danny Seaman, Chris Barry and Raven looked assured on the ball and well-structured when having to defend. Just before the break, a deep corner from Wilson was well met at the far post by the head of Bessent, finally breaking the deadlock and giving Lloyd’s a deserved half-time lead.

After the break, Lloyd’s kept the ball well and engineered more chances to extend their lead even against a well-drilled HMPS team. With legs tiring, Lloyd’s brought on Simon Hayward, Louis Elwood, David Moss and former manager Michael Owen to brighten things up and provide some renewed energy. In hindsight it was much needed as with ten to go, HMPS rallied and an onslaught began. On numerous occasions, Dan Harwood in the Lloyd’s goal was relied upon to ensure the clean sheet remained intact. However, the team showed great fight and togetherness to hold on for a well-earned victory.
